Das Discovery Basics BBC 8x21 ist ein Porro-Fernglas, das dennoch sehr kompakt und leicht ist. Das Fernglas ist als Touristenfernglas konzipiert, d. h. man kann es problemlos auf Wanderungen, Spaziergänge und lange Reisen mitnehmen. Es eignet sich gleichermaßen für das detaillierte Studium von Objekten, die sich in großer Entfernung befinden, und für die Beobachtung der Umgebung. Das Fernglas ist ideal für Beobachtungen bei Tageslicht.

Die Optik besteht aus BK-7-Glas mit 8-facher Vergrößerung; der Objektivdurchmesser beträgt 21 mm. Das Sehfeld ist ausreichend für die Beobachtung von sich schnell bewegenden Objekten oder Objektgruppen, z. B. von Sportlern in einem Stadion. Mit dem zentralen Fokussierrad lässt sich die Schärfe einstellen. Die Okulare sind mit komfortablen Drehaugenmuscheln ausgestattet.

Ein Stativ ist nicht erforderlich, da die Qualität und Stabilität des Bildes auf hohem Niveau bleibt, auch wenn das Fernglas in der Hand gehalten wird.
